Debi, I have just read your updates on the website. You are such an amazing woman. You make me feel like I can overcome any obstacle in my life. I finished my Marathon in October and the picture of you and your children really got me through the 18th mile! I was signed up to do the Los Angeles Marathon through the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society but shortly found out I was pregnant! My husband is still forging ahead with the marathon for LLS. He has trained for the past couple of months and is up to 17 miles. He is a braver man than myself since he is running most of it. I only ran when there was a downhill trail. He wears his wristband with your name on it. And when he runs the marathon he too will have the picture to keep him going. Debi, you are an awesome woman who will inspire a lot of people. And you have the most beautiful smile. Keep smiling and laughing for that family of yours. You can tell how much they love you. Fondly, Janine Stolze

Debi, I have been wanting to write you a note since I had the pleasure of seeing you over the Christmas Holidays. You looked so beautiful so I know in my heart that all of the prayers being said around the world for you are working. There is nothing in this world more powerful than prayer and I wanted to tell you that many people here in Siskiyou County have you on the prayer lists. Not only are they asking the Lord to make you whole again but also for Nick and the kids to have the strength to know the Lord is on their side too. Keep fighting Debi, never give up, you can beat this thing. Our family prays for you everyday and we will never stop. Your sister is an amazing person. We love you, Karen

I just want you to know my friend that a day does not go by that you are not in my heart and in my mind. I say a prayer for you daily and my family prays for you too. Our prayers are for you and your family. We are all so blessed to have you in our lives. I received an email from your mom today with this web page and it was an answered prayer. I have been wanting to let you know how much you have been on my mind and how much I love you. Thank the Lord for this web page for those of us who want to show how much we care. Another tax season quickly approaches and with January just around the corner I will now have a way to keep in touch. I am looking forward to you getting better to come to see me at tax time again. You have always been the highlight at the beggining of each tax season. Thanks to you and your husband my business has really grown. Didn't realize so many Edison people lived up in the high desert. :) Thanks. If you are in need of anything just let me know and I am here for you. You are in God's hands and they are strong and loving. You will continue to be in our prayers and we thank God for you. God Bless and I love you my friend. Mary Kaye

Nick, Debbie and family. We were just recently advised by Glen Wolff of Debi's "life challenge". Even though we haven't communicated in probably 12 years, we just want you to know we are thinking of you and know that Debi will have a full recovery. And when your both old and gray, with your children and grandchildren at your feet, you'll tell a story of not only courage and strength, but the true power of love. Nick, tell Debbie the story of when you lost your brand new shoe in the cow pasture behind your house. That should get her to laugh, and you know what they say,"laughter is the best medicine". With love, Bill, Susie, Sarah and Jake Alwin

I would just encourage you to learn about "Eniva" This is a company in Minnesota, they have wonderful products that help the body heal itself. You can look it up online at www.eniva.com I am just now learning about these products but I am extremely impressed with what I am hearing. I became interested in them thru a friend who has just recovered from a case of sever stomach cancer. I would be glad to e-mail you his testimony. My e-mail address is listed above. Thank you and I will be praying for Debi. I know and understand the bonds of sisterhood as my older sister is my very best friend.

Debi, The latest pictures are so encouraging. Debi, girl, you look marvelous!!! Your smile tells me that you continue to be a person with great strength and faith, I love that in you because I know that with faith we can overcome great obstacles. "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto the mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." When your day is hard and the task seems tough remember all of your friends and family are pulling for you, praying for your continued improvement and rooting you on. In my prayers each day I thank our Father in Heaven for you, your nurses, Nick, Kris and John. You have the best family and their love and devotion is awe inspiring. I miss you terribly and can't wait to get together for a "girlie" day. I cherrish the birthday lunches, craft shows and bunco memories and I know that it won't be long before we will add to those memories. Stay strong girlfriend Love, Janelle

Hi Debi....My name is Janet Curtis and I just read all of your latest updates and have been following your story all along. I am a counselor at Park View where Sheila teaches and have known your sister for a long time. My husband, Robert and I(like so many other strangers to you!) have been praying for your recovery and for God's grace in your life for the past seven months when I was really able to hear the whole story of your ordeal from Sheila. We believe so strongly in the power of prayer and so have been faithful to saying them for you. Your progress is a miracle and we will continue to pray for healing and peace for your family.

How do you know Debi?:
She's my new Inspiration. (saw her story on www.healthboards.com)
|
Comments:
Where do I begin? Its far too easy for us to take things for granted - it does us a world of good to be reminded that there is always someone, somewhere, whose burdens are heavier. (I know that may be hard for you to visualize, Debi, but you're blessed with Family and Friends who love you...I'm sure you realize some don't have that). For me, reading your story made me feel so lucky. You see, I'm also an AML survivor, but while my fight with Leukemia was no picnic, it pales alongside the almost epic tale of your stubborn refusal to be defeated, which is nothing short of astonishing. I struggle to this day with various health issues, some related to the cancer and chemo, some not. The worst of it has involved the effects chemo has been said to have on "cognitive function"...the foggy-headed feeling many patients call "chemo-brain". For me memmory has been the most impacted trait. But when I read your story, I felt almost guilty for letting my own symptoms hold me back...they seem so minor! These mere words cannot fully explain the inspiration I feel you to be! I know the feeling you described, of having so many people praying for you (in different languages even, in my case). I remember when my oncologist, who was a great guy, told me after my recovery that he had been afraid I was going to be one he would lose. His experience told him my prognosis was not good - in fact was worse than he was letting on to me. There is no doubt in my mind that it was the prayers of so many, and the will of God, that spared me. Debi, I've NEVER known of anyone more deserving of a full-blown miracle than you. I look forward to the day when I will watch your interview on TV, listening as some talk show host describes the morning when you amazed everyone by simply getting out of bed, walking to the nurse's station, and asking for breakfast. Do any of you doubt that something like that could happen? If I'd told you a year ago all this was coming, you never would have thought it possible. The love of a multitude is interceding for you. Believe, and it will be. The experience of having Leukemia changed me enormously inside. I started to use the name Joseph instead of just Joe, because I finally felt like I had grown into the name, which had been too big for me before. I also took on a kind of pen-name, e-mail nick-name, of "Blood-Phoenix". I'd always thought the magical Phoenix of legends was a cool image, one of survival against all odds, and the "blood" reference should be obvious. I felt like I had been born anew out of the ashes. And as amazing as my survival was (one lady in my office insisted on calling me "miracle-boy") your recovery is so much greater! You are making your own miracle, day by day, and one step at a time, through sheer willpower, and the love of your family and supporters!!! I don't know if these words have offered you anything...I hope they have. You have helped me without even knowing me. I wish I wasn't so dirt poor right now, or I would send you a donation toward your unreal medical costs. I remember I used to joke that I wasn't exactly bionic Steve Austin, but I was the low budget 600,000 dollar man! Your bill must have that beat by now! I will send money when I can. One last parting thought (I know this is a long note!) I used to listen to beautiful, uplifting music while I was in the hospital. I read that you're a rock fan, so I don't know how you feel about other music styles...? Have you listened to much Classical? I will never forget the morning a nurse opened my curtains so that I could watch the sun rise behind the Cascade Mountains, while my tape of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" played on my boom box. Get a tape of it, and listen. I say this because I can imagine somewhat the frustration of being inside your body and aware, but limited. I'm not sure I know what thats like, but suspect I might. My cancer was caught during a routine check of the blood levels of a Med I take for seizures. When I have a Gran Mal seizure, I am a passenger in my own body, along for the ride, unable to grab the wheel. It must feel similar. So I recommend that music - it will make you feel like your soul is soaring free. For me, listening as I watched the sun's first rays set the snow-capped mountains ablaze that morning, it was like I could hear God's voice in the songs. Try it, I think you'll see what I mean. If I had any money, I would buy you a copy and mail it! Happy Holidays to you all, and may God bless you with continued progress and continued remission.
